Style: Louis XVI
Louis XVI, who reigned from 1774 to 1789, is remembered as the last absolute monarch. The French Revolution of 1789 overthrew the monarchy by divine right and Louis XVI was guillotined on January 21st 1793.
The Louis XVI style is classical, inspired by Antiquity, the shapes are geometric, the legs of the furniture are straight and light, often fluted. However, under the influence of Marie-Antoinette, the ornaments are enriched with musical and rural attributes, ribbon bows giving a delicate touch to the furniture.

Pair of "cabriolets" armchairs

Let me tell you a few words about what we call in French "cabriolets" armchairs
During the reign of Louis XV, armchairs were the most popular pieces of furniture. It was at this time, in the 18th century, that the "cabriolet" armchair emerged. The armchair "cabriolet" is a small light seat of lounge or boudoir. It takes its name from the 18th century horse-drawn carriages known for their mobility. Indeed, this very practical armchair moves easily according to the needs of the user.
In the Louis XVI style, the cabriolet chair is painted in light colors, such as white or gray. Gold is reserved for exceptional furniture, for palaces and private mansions.
The pair of cabriolets that I propose today is in the Louis XVI style with a crest shaped backrest. They have been reupholstered in a delicate blue-gray fabric that accentuates their refinement and will easily complement your interior. They are nice French copies from the 50's.
