A wedding globe is an ornament made for weddings in many French regions between the mid-19th century and 1914, designed to keep the crown and sometimes the bouquet worn by the bride on her wedding day safe from dust. This oval glass globe can also hold other mementos of that unforgettable day.
The bridal globe is made up of several elements: a glass dome, fine brass ornamentation fixed to a wooden base and a genuine velvet skullcap. The brass ornamentation was accompanied by mirrors in different shapes: lozenges, triangles and ovals. Each element had its own significance: the diamond-shaped mirrors represented the number of children the couple wanted. Rectangular mirrors symbolise sincerity and promised fidelity. Triangular mirrors represent the couple's fertility. Oval mirrors were given by bridesmaids as good luck charms. A dove is often found at the centre of the brass composition, symbolising peace and love between the couple.
The one I'm proposing today is absolutely delightful, with its original padded cushion. The flowers, on the other hand, have been replaced by the care of @sandrosedubai
