Pair of large Delft faience vases dating from the first half of the 19th century, decorated in the traditional blue‑and‑white palette with motifs inspired by Chinese porcelain, including flowers, butterflies and a small bird. Their characteristic silhouette — often referred to as a baluster or button‑top vase — was especially popular in interior decoration of the period.
These pieces were originally created to imitate the precious porcelain imported from China, and Delftware soon gained international recognition during the Dutch Golden Age. The vases are in very good condition, with an elegant profile and an impressive size that makes them particularly striking in a room.
A beautiful and decorative pair, full of charm and historical character.

Delft pottery
The Delft faience tradition emerged in the 17th century, when Dutch artisans began producing tin‑glazed earthenware inspired by imported Chinese porcelain. Over time, the Delft manufactories developed their own identity, with distinctive cobalt‑blue decoration that became a hallmark of Dutch ceramic art. By the 18th and 19th centuries, Delftware had gained international recognition, celebrated for its craftsmanship, refined motifs, and enduring cultural heritage.
