A charming small Louis XVI‑style caned sofa, dating from circa 1900. The caning has been redone, and the frame is painted in a delicate pearl grey. At the time, pieces like this were often placed in jardins d’hiver — those light‑filled winter gardens found in French townhouses, where one could enjoy plants and daylight even in the colder months.
Today, it would make a lovely end‑of‑bed piece, or an elegant occasional seat in a bedroom or an entrance hall. It is simply adorable, full of charm and softness.

Louis XVI, who reigned from 1774 to 1789, is remembered as the last absolute monarch. The French Revolution of 1789 overthrew the monarchy by divine right and Louis XVI was guillotined on January 21st 1793.
The Louis XVI style is classical, inspired by Antiquity, the shapes are geometric, the legs of the furniture are straight and light, often fluted. However, under the influence of Marie-Antoinette, the ornaments are enriched with musical and rural attributes, ribbon bows giving a delicate touch to the furniture.
