I am happy to present to you this lovely pair of low chairs in blackened turned wood, from the Napoleon III period, around 1870. They were originally called chauffeuses, small chairs kept near the fireplace to stay warm. Later, people also used them as nursing chairs, because the low seat and the high back made it easy to feed babies or keep children close to the hearth.

The fabric has a charming chinoiserie design: blue‑and‑white porcelain vases and ginger jars, with big flowers like peonies or chrysanthemums. The bright red background gives a warm and rich feeling, and the colours work beautifully together.

You can place them in a bedroom as night valet chairs, in an entrance as a decorative touch, or even to create a cosy reading corner. They have simple lines but a lot of character, and they bring a soft, elegant French atmosphere to a home.
