Ravishing Empire‑style bedside cabinet dating from circa 1900, with that simple French charm I always love in old pieces. It has two detached columns on each side of a door with pretty marquetry, and when you open it, you find a small white‑marble compartment that feels almost like a secret. The top is also in white marble, shaped with a soft moulding, and the cabinet itself carries a few bronze details that give it a gentle, old‑world elegance.

It’s a small piece, easy to place — in the corner of a living room with a lamp, or wherever you feel it belongs. It doesn’t try too hard, but somehow its grace catches the eye. There is something quiet and authentic about it, the kind of charm you only find in pieces that have lived.

More Information

Style Empire:

The First French Empire is a period marked by the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte from 1804 to 1815.

The craftsmen were invited to create majestic works to symbolise imperial power.  For this purpose, they took up Egyptian or Greco-Roman motifs and adapted them to furniture.

To these are added imperial and warlike motifs. These include the crown, the imperial eagle, the bee, the star, the spear...

Mahogany, walnut, maple, elm and ash are representative woods of this style.
