A beautiful marine, a pictorial genre devoted to the sea. These works portray the ocean in all its moods — calm, stormy, or dramatic — along with everything connected to it: coastlines, ports, navigation, and naval battles. The genre reached its golden age in the 17th century with Dutch painters, who mastered the horizon line, reflections, and light.

This vintage piece dates from the 1950s. It is the printed reproduction of an engraving, presented in a gilded frame decorated with a delicate pearl motif and a border of acanthus leaves — a very elegant combination.

A work carrying both historical weight and visual presence. Perfect for a study or an entrance hall, though of course you are free to give it any place that feels right in your home.

More Information

This framed reproduction illustrates the Battle of Lissa, which took place on 20 July 1866 in the Adriatic Sea, near the island of Lissa (today Vis, in Croatia). The confrontation ended with a decisive victory for the Austrian Empire over the Kingdom of Italy.

Beyond its dramatic setting, this battle holds an important place in naval history: it was the first major engagement between ironclad warships, marking a turning point in modern maritime warfare.
