I can't decide what I love more: the chairs or the fabric! Tell me, what do you prefer about this gorgeous pair of Directoire style bergères?
The Directoire style, popular from 1789 to 1803, bridges the transition between Louis XVI and Empire styles. It’s known for its understated elegance and simple forms. As you can see, the front of those armchairs still echoes Louis XVI influences, while the "sabre" legs hint at the forthcoming Empire style. This pair dates fom a little later, mid 19th century.
But above all, these are two exquisite lacquered wooden armchairs chairs in a delicate green, adorned with a stunning peacock-patterned fabric. Like me, you’ll surely fall for those armchairs that have journeyed from the 19th century and across oceans to the UAE.

More Information
Style: Directoire
The Directoire style was a style of furnishing and decoration in fashion from 1789 to 1803. Marking the transition between the Louis XVI and Empire styles, it was characterised by sober design and simple shapes. The Directoire style continued the classical tradition of the Louis XVI style, but with a more austere treatment, heralding the Empire style without its heaviness. Simple forms, discreet curves and straight lines without rigidity are combined in great elegance.
