All the elegance and opulence of the Second Empire are captured in this magnificent sofa set, dating from around 1860 and in genuine Napoleon III style and period. It comprises a very large sofa, two armchairs, and three chairs — all in richly carved gilt wood, with castors on the legs, a distinctive feature of the era’s design.
The ensemble has been reupholstered in a stunning gold-toned damask jacquard, adding depth and texture while respecting its historic character.
A remarkable group with presence and refinement — ideal for those drawn to timeless beauty and a touch of French grandeur.

Style: Napoleon III
Nephew of Napoleon I, Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte was elected President of the Second Republic in 1848 before becoming Emperor Napoleon III in 1852 following a coup d'etat.
Napoleon III style is one of the most interesting even if nothing is really novel with elements borrowed from preceding styles. Based on the taste of the period, Japanese, Chinese and Oriental art brings a richness, abundance and eclecticism specific to this period.
