Charming Louis XVI–style bedside table dating from the mid‑19th century. It is an elegant piece, but also an original and rather rare one, as it is a “tambour” bedside table. It features two sliding doors made of fine wooden slats that reveal a central compartment with a white marble base, the doors fitted with delicate chiselled brass knobs. This compartment is framed by one drawer above and two drawers below, each with finely worked bronze ring pulls.
A small opening at the back panel once allowed for a water inlet. The top, surmounted by a marble, is nicely defined by a moulded edge. Marquetry decorates the sides and the drawer fronts.
Wherever you choose to place it, it will undoubtedly spark curiosity.

Style: Louis XVI
Louis XVI, who reigned from 1774 to 1789, is remembered as the last absolute monarch. The French Revolution of 1789 overthrew the monarchy by divine right and Louis XVI was guillotined on January 21st 1793.
The Louis XVI style is classical, inspired by Antiquity, the shapes are geometric, the legs of the furniture are straight and light, often fluted. However, under the influence of Marie-Antoinette, the ornaments are enriched with musical and rural attributes, ribbon bows giving a delicate touch to the furniture.
