Very pretty Louis XVI‑style stool from the Napoléon III period, circa 1870. It has two gracefully curved armrests decorated with small floral engravings, and it is made of solid beech wood. The upper part of the legs is engraved as well, giving the piece a gentle, old‑fashioned charm.

I chose to upholster it in a soft gold velvet, with a hand‑woven floral tapestry band set into the centre. It adds a warm, delicate touch that suits the shape of the stool beautifully.

Placed in front of a dressing table, a writing desk, or used as an occasional seat in a living room, it is a piece full of history, carrying a discreet and timeless elegance. It doesn’t try to impress, but it has that quiet grace that makes old French furniture so appealing.

Ready now for whatever new life you decide to give it.

More Information

Style: Louis XVI

Louis XVI, who reigned from 1774 to 1789, is remembered as the last absolute monarch. The French Revolution of 1789 overthrew the monarchy by divine right and Louis XVI was guillotined on January 21st 1793.

The Louis XVI style is classical, inspired by Antiquity, the shapes are geometric, the legs of the furniture are straight and light, often fluted. However, under the influence of Marie-Antoinette, the ornaments are enriched with musical and rural attributes, ribbon bows giving a delicate touch to the furniture.
