A charming 19th‑century Paris porcelain tisanière, richly decorated with polychrome flowers and bouquets and highlighted with fine gilding on a white ground.
Made in the Charles X, Restauration style, this piece includes its original warming base, typical of Vieux Paris porcelain, which was often left unmarked.
Designed to prepare and keep herbal infusions warm, the set is composed of several elements: the lid, the teapot, the base, and the small oil cup.
The cup was filled with oil (commonly colza oil) and fitted with a wick that, once lit, gently heated the tisane above.
Beyond its function, the soft glow of the flame would shine through the openings of the base, allowing the piece to serve as a night‑light, hence its second name: the “veilleuse‑tisanière.”
A delicate and decorative example of Vieux Paris porcelain, combining charm, craftsmanship, and a touch of 19th‑century domestic poetry.
