A very pretty tripod guéridon in mahogany, dating from the late 19th century. In the eclectic Napoléon III style, it shows a clear English influence. The elegance of its base and its scalloped top give the piece a delicate, graceful presence, enhanced by the warm tones of the mahogany.
A small detail I love: the tilting top, which allows the table to be placed flat against a wall when used as an occasional piece.

Nephew of Napoleon I, Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte was elected President of the Second Republic in 1848 before becoming Emperor Napoleon III in 1852 following a coup d'etat.
Napoleon III style is one of the most interesting even if nothing is really novel with elements borrowed from preceding styles. Based on the taste of the period, Japanese, Chinese and Oriental art brings a richness, abundance and eclecticism specific to this period.
